Following the demand of many active cyclists, the National Cycling Centre - Atlantic Canada is proud to announce the creation of its Active for life training program!

The program will now be split in two groups: the Weekend Warriors plan and the Cyclo-sportif plan. Both touching the Active for life stage of the LTAD.

The Active for Life stage of LTAD is the final destination of all Canadians. In this stage, athletes and participants enjoy lifelong participation in a variety of competitive and recreational opportunities in sport and physical activity.

“This stage can be entered at any age, beginning with developing physical literacy in infancy, and evolves to being Competitive for Life and/or Fit for Life through all phases of adulthood.” CS4L

All right! If you still had doubts regarding the Wintercross, well, the snow has come, and a course was built in that snow! Like every year, you never know what to expect from the course and the snow conditions, but this ones, I must say looks nice!

So, no more excuses! Snow is great (and especially soft to throw fellow cyclist into it!), weather should be great (sunny and minus 7 on Saturday) and many are planning on being there! Registration (at only 5$, it’s a steal!) will take place at the Centre at 2 PM and the race starts at 3. We should be going for 45 minutes and a lap, but officials will call it according to the weather!

This year, we’re doing it better from what we’ve learned during our first winter. We’ll have three types of rides:

The Canadian Track Cycling Championships make their way for the third time to Atlantic Canada. In 2006 and 2007, Dieppe played host the Track cycling Championships. The event has been held for the last two years in Bromont, QC at the National Cycling Centre Quebec.

Mathieu Boucher, Director of Development at the Canadian Cycling Association, is pleased with the progress of the event. “We have been working in close collaboration with the National Cycling Centre – Atlantic Canada and the local organizing committee, and we are confident this will be a great event for the athletes and for the community. This will be a great opportunity to showcase track cycling to an new audience and we hope the event will educate and inspire the growth of cycling in the Maritimes.”

Luc Arseneau, Head coach at the National Cycling Centre – Atlantic Canada, is delighted to see this event come to the centre which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2011. “Having the best track cyclists, including Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Team members, come in to Dieppe to race our newly surfaced Velodrome will provide a great platform for an exciting show in Atlantic Canada. The community in Atlantic Canada has always supported major events, and we are looking forward to see everyone gather together and celebrate cycling with this marquee track cycling event.”

The National Cycling Centre – Atlantic Canada recently resurfaced its velodrome, thanks to many volunteers, coaches and athletes who pitched in to give a boost to the local and provincial racing. The resurfacing project was funded by local and provincial levels of governments, as well as private donors such as the Caisse Populaire de Dieppe/Memramcook.

Thanks to the Centre’s relentless efforts, cyclists hailing from the National Cycling Centre Atlantic have produced more than 60 National medals and 21 invitations to represent Canada at UCI World Championships. The Centre helped some high-profile athletes to reach international levels, including World Tour rider Christian Meier (Sussex, NB/GreenEdge Pro Cycling), pro cyclist Moriah Jo MacGregor (Vancouver, BC/Juvéderm-Specialized), Canada Cup Champion Matt Hadley (Mount Hope, NB/Team Expresso), Canadian Omnium Champion Cam McKinnon (Dieppe, NB/Team H&R Block), Garrett Macleod (Wolfville, NS /Team H&R Block) and young sensation Stuart Wight (Riverview, NB/CR4C Rouanne) just to name a few

The schedule of the event will be published closer to the event. The event will feature racing for the Elite, Junior, Cadet, Masters and Para-cycling.
