Our Programs

The coaching programs are the main mandate for the Centre. Through the years, they proved to be of the most successful in the country. So for, our riders have collected 60 nationals medals, 21 invitations to participate at World Championships; and the challenge has just begun!

In 2007, we adapted our programs with the CCA LTAD (Long Team Athlete Development), we wanted to create programs for every developmental phases of our young cyclists, always while respecting human development. Our programs will touch more apects:
  • Elite programs
  • Cycling Academy
  • Selection programs
  • Education (Leadership) programs
  • Events (related)
These programs are to enable us to achieve our Long Term Plan presented by our Head Coach at the 2007 Annual General Meeting. An important part of this program is the Centre programs according to the LTAD table.

Here a complete article recently written to descibe this new philosophy.

The Giant Elite Programs

This program is developed to let riders go up the competition latter of the Canadian Cycling Association’s development model. It is now time, with the National Cycling Centre – Atlantic Canada, to start thinking the Olympic way. For the last 5 years, this cycling program has been one of the most successful one in Canada. We are not simply happy to be on any start line any more… we are there to compete and win!

The Cycling Academy

With the construction of the Dieppe BMX Track in 2007, we saw the birth of the Cycling Academy. This enabled us to offer programs for every stage of the CCA LTAD. To this date, we have the details for the following programs:

For the Subway BMX track will be fully opened to public as soon as the weather allows it. The public is invited to come out and try the sport for free on every Sunday evening.

Riders are permitted to ride mountain bikes or BMX bikes on the track and an approved full face helmet must also be worn. A limited number of BMX bikes and helmets are available for rent at the track – rental fees are $5.00 per bike or helmet for the session. Riders are also required to wear long pants, long sleeved shirts and fully enclosed footwear and full fingered gloves.

In order to access the Subway BMX Track at other times, yearly membership will be required. Such memberships will be available at the Sunday evening open track times or from the National Cycling Centre’s office during business hours (8:30-4:30 weekdays). Membership for the year is $50 for the year.

For the moment, the open times for members will be Monday (6 to 8 pm), and Friday (2 to 4 pm). Wednesday evening (6 to 8 pm) will include coaching and fun racing for all members.

The Subway BMX track will also be opened at other specific times for specific training groups such as LetŐs Ride and Peter Wedge Programs.

In September, we will also be hosting a weekly racing series on Saturday mornings. This series will start with the first ever Atlantic BMX Open on August 2nd.

Selection Program

In order to respond to the lack of project opportunity and exposure to major events for Atlantic athletes, the Centre is again offering its selection (team) program . This selection, not intended to replace any club or provincial team, could attend, on a project basis, other major events not attended by clubs or provincial teams. Among these events, we can count the famous Tour de lŐAbitibi, National Championships, GP de Beauce, Tour de la Guadeloupe, etc.

2011 Program Criteria (to be published shortly)

The Selection's primary objective is to ensure Atlantic Canada's deserving cyclists have the opportunity to develop and to demonstrate their potential during high level events. For the 2003 season (our first season), four projects were put together and we attended the National Track Championships (5 riders), the Tour de lŐAbitibi (6 riders), the National Road Championships (19 riders), and finally but not least, 5 riders attended two Cyclo-cross in the Boston area.
All these projects are administered by our office and are based on a user-pay system. Every project are also attended by the best staff available to offer the athletes a professional support. This year, this program will also help us put together our coaching experience program.
With such program, Atlantic cyclists are not only looked at as pack fillers, but as contenders on the national scene.
