Mike's Bike Shop Cup - Week 1 postponed [Mon May 9 10:21:12 PDT 2011] [-]minimize www.atlanticcyclingcentre.com/regForm/reg.phpWe did announce the trails were dry (and they were), but the rain we got over the past few days and what we’re expecting over the next 24 hours is forcing us to postpone the start of the 2011 Mike’s Bike Shop Cup. Wanting to be environmentally friendly with our trail system in Dieppe’s St-Anselme’s park (50 cyclists X 6 laps mean a lot of wheels in the mud!), we will simply push the cross country section of the series a week later. We will finish the Mike's Bike Shop Cup series with 3 weeks of cross. Our apologies for all the date changes and event mix ups; we had to shift things around the future velodrome renovations! As a reminder, the current top three riders in the general classification are Mark-Andre Deslauriers in first, Jean-Richard Cormier in second, and Mike LeBlanc in third. Its a close race between the three, but there's still lots of races and plenty of time for things to change! Most of you are probably wondering about the track and whether or not we will have any Mike's Bike Shop Cup races on it once it is fully renovated. The riders were challenged with many of the new trails that were developed at Dieppe’s St-Anselme Park. The trails were a bit wet and slippery, but we must not forget this it the earliest we ever started this event. Pascal Sirois took last night’s event. He was followed by Pierre McIntyre and Krista Koval. Sirois will be wearing the Apogée leader’s jersey next Tuesday for stage two of the long 18 week fun battle. His challenge to defend the jersey will now be even greater as his handicap will now be increased. Last season overall champion, Neil Symington, unfortunately started the season on a sour note, suffering of a punctured tire with a lap to go. In the spirit of this friendly event, he decided to finish the race and collect the last 5 points available. Considering how close the classification was in 2009, those points could be of great value when October rolls around. Next week’s event (2nd out of 3 cross country events) will again take place in St-Anselme Park at 6:30. On-line registrations are still possible for those hoping to join on this fun, social event. With the special timing system we developed along the years, everyone has a chance to win on any given night! Photos of last night's event are available here. Thanks to Denis Doucet for those pictures. A facebook page was also created and can be found here. Here are the complete results:

At a young age, those riders should be exposed to more then one bike to be on the right developmental path. In fact, this series exposes them to six different race bikes. No doubt in my mind the winner must be a complete cyclist;” mentions Luc Arseneau, head coach at the National Cycling Centre – Atlantic Canada. The last night of the weekly series certainly delivered what was expected of it. On the start line, 5 riders could still mathematically win the Cup. Marc Evers won the stage, followed by André Landry and Jean-Richard Cormier. On the general classification, things could not be closer. Julien Roussel, managed, by the smallest margin of 5 points, to keep his Apogée leader’s jersey and win the 2010 Mike’s Bike Shop Cup with 715 points. His good friend, Neil Symington took the second step on the podium with 710 points while Marc Evers was also very close with 695 points to claim 3rd overall. The three riders from the National Cycling Centre’s Peter Wedge RACER program were also joined by another program member on top of the leader board. Julien Basque, at his first year of racing, finished fourth overall (665 points) while Jean-Richard Cormier (625 points) completed the top five. Cycling Centre’s president, Guy Vincent and Mike’s Bike Shop representative, Richard Donovan, were present for the awards presentation. “The Centre is very happy to be able to count on partners like Mike’s Bike Shop and Apogée to enable us to put such programs together and especially to help us develop these young riders who can now use the Mike’s Bike Shop Cup to jump to the next level of competition;” concluded Guy Vincent. Although tonight’s event concluded the 2010 Mike’s Bike Shop Cup, one more event remains on the National Cycling Centre’s agenda for the season, the Halloween Cross to be held this weekend (Saturday evening’s SPRINT and Sunday, 11 am, cyclo-cross championships). ...[-]minimize Mike's Bike Shop Cup - Godfrey takes week 1 [Mon May 30 12:32:26 PDT 2011] [-]minimize Here are the results of the first stage of the 2011 Mike’s Bike Shop Cup held on Tuesday, May 24th.
